2021 Abstract Program

June 25, 2021

Recognizing that 2020 was a year filled with worldwide uncertainties, AATB would like to use the 2021 Annual Meeting as an opportunity to recognize all of the outstanding research being done in the tissue banking community. This year AATB will showcase all submitted and accepted abstracts at the Annual Meeting, October 12-15 in Atlanta, GA.

Abstracts can be submitted in the scientific or administrative category. They must be based on original work that has not been previously published or presented in any other copyrighted journal or Abstract Book. Abstracts may have been previously submitted at smaller/regional meetings but cannot be previously published.

All submissions are due September 17, 2021.

ABSTRACT CATEGORIES

Scientific Abstracts

Scientific abstracts should relate to research, both clinical and non-clinical, performed on allograft tissue for the purposes of establishing and evaluating tissue characterization, safety, efficacy, etc.

Examples of scientific topics include the following:

  • Clinical usage and application methods (human and animal evaluation)
  • Microbiology (screening, testing and validation)
  • Tissue processing methods and optimizations
  • Tissue handling (distribution, recovery, storage, stability)
  • Disinfection/sterilization methods
  • In-vitro model validations
  • CMC assay development and qualification/validation
  • Allogeneic cell evaluation/regenerative medicine
  • Other applicable topics

Types of tissue that can be assessed:

  • Musculoskeletal (bone, tendons)
  • Cardiovascular
  • Skin
  • Birth tissue
  • Xenografts

Administrative Abstracts

Non-scientific abstracts may include surveys, literature reviews, or testimonials on specific topics and may include data but it is not required unless needed to support the conclusions.

Although not an inclusive list, topics related to tissue banking may include:

  • Donor eligibility requirements
  • Technician safety practices
  • Recovery methods
  • Service to donor families
  • Funeral home practices
  • Hospital practices
  • Compliance/regulation
  • Other (must describe)

ABSTRACT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Author Name: There is no limit to the number of abstracts an author may submit.
  • Character Limit: Limit of 3,200 characters in the text of the abstract.  This includes title, abstract body, and spaces, but does not include author names, affiliations, tables, graphs, or images.
  • Tables and Graphics:  Each abstract may include up to 3 tables and/or graphics if needed for supplementation.
  • Clarity of Expression: Ensure overall quality of language to assure comprehension by the reader.
  • Organization: Abstract should also be organized into separate sections (note the elements below) as separate paragraphs.
  • Abstract Elements:
    • TITLE – Must properly describe the work being submitted.  Do not use all capital letters to spell out the title.
    • BACKGROUND – Description of the importance and significance of the work being evaluated and the potential impact it may have (i.e. – clinically, to the tissue banking industry, etc).
    • HYPOTHESIS – Clearly describe the purpose of the work and what the initial hypotheses were prior to execution of testing/evaluation.
    • METHODS – Description of all testing/evaluation completed to test the initial hypothesis. This can include specifics about experimental/evaluation procedures and protocols as well as a summary of statistical tools utilized.
    • RESULTS – This section will summarize all data analysis.  Tables, graphs, and images can be used to display the final data.
    • CONCLUSIONS – Upon completion of data analysis, this section will highlight any final conclusions, significance of findings, and address the initial hypothesis.
  • Ethical Considerations: The work presented in the abstract must conform to guidelines for ethical experimentation procedures with animals and/or patients as applicable and follow good scientific practices.
