The American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) Board of Directors today announced the selection of Marc Pearce as its new President and Chief Executive Officer. Pearce will start at AATB on June 1st.

COVID-19 is on everyone's mind with the effects being felt around the world.

In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic and the resultant closures of businesses and non-essential operations by many state governments, AATB would like to emphasize that tissue banks are an essential health care operation.

Previously referred to as 2019-nCoV, the infectious disease caused by the Novel Coronavirus identified in December 2019 has now been assigned the name “COVID-19” by the WHO, to include all forms of the disease from mild to severe.

On behalf of our membership, AATB provided comment on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed rule addressing Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) Conditions for Coverage and Outcome Measure Requirements (Proposed Rule).

On behalf of our membership, AATB filed a Citizen Petition to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) related to the use of human acellular dermal matrices (hADM) for use in post-mastectomy breast reconstruction procedures.

In order to accurately articulate the size, scope, and positive clinical impact of the tissue banking profession, AATB conducted a survey of US tissue banks in partnership with the US Department of Health and Human Services.
